About

Hi, my name is Kai. Welcome to my portfolio!

To my very core, I am a designer. Learning new things about the world and processes that shape it to turn ideas into reality; that is what I do, and I live for it. You give me a problem, and I will stop at nothing to solve it.

This passion of mine has been around a long time. As a kid, that meant making cardboard models for birthday parties, and messing with robotics kits, some successful… and some not so much. I hit my stride in high school, joining the engineering pathway and eventually ending up at the Design Lead for the KCAL Solar Crusaders; our school district’s solar car racing team. In my senior year we built the car from the ground up, racing it nationally in the Solar Car Challenge, where we placed 3rd overall. It was an experience I’ll never forget

As a College Student, I honed in on Industrial Design in particular for its combination of the mechanics and artistry of creating something new. University of Houston was chosen in particular for its Bachelors of Science, and emphasis on physical prototypes over exclusively digital design. Those 4 years have taken my passion and baseline training, and honed them into something practiced; something professional.

I’m excited to step into this new chapter, both for what I can make, and what I will learn as I do.

Outside of the Studio

Outside of design, I’m a hobbyist. I play a lot of Tabletop Roleplaying Games ( like Dungeons and Dragons ), and that leads to me doing a lot of character design and sketching on the side! I love a good story and, as is above, I love making things. Outside the studio that usually looks like painting miniatures, messing with 3D Printers, or making stickers. I’ll also read, and dabble with hobbies such as leatherworking or sewing when time allows.
